Girls’ Generation
Not only is Girls’ Generation, one of Asia’s biggest girl groups, this K-pop powerhouse (also known as SNSD, or So Nyeo Shi Dae) is also the perfect business model for today’s idol groups. Members Taeyeon, Jessica, Sunny, Hyoyeon, Tiffany, Yuri, Sooyoung, Yoona, and Seohyun have saturated all forms of Korean media — not only as chart-topping singers, but also as actresses, models, radio DJs, and television hosts. Exuding a charisma only possible after years of international superstardom and reaching double-platinum status, this leggy girl group has come a long way since their “Gee” days.
Fast forward to 2012. After signing to Interscope Records, the girls have made their American debut with “The Boys,” written and composed by Michael Jackson’s legendary producer Teddy Riley. With highly publicized appearances on Late Show with David Letterman and Live! with Kelly, Girls’ Generation is at last trying their hand at breaking into the American mainstream.
